PARKOUR
« on: September 02, 2006, 10:23:18 AM »
i would really like to know what you people think about parkour!?!
do you think it´s just a trend or maybe it can become a used tool in some struggle!...i know it allready got used, but it seams that at the moment everyone who´s into "body-consience" or somekind of fighting style is working parkour without any thoughts behind it!...i think there is alot more to it!!
and what kind of martial arts skills get along with it best?!?...i mean which are most effective?!?

That depends on where you live and who would be teaching you (or if you'd be winging this on your own).

Parkour is good stuff if you're aiming to be the next Jackie Chan. :)

Seriously thought, i'm sure parkour is a good workout and makes you agile and what not. But it's not going to make you to be able to defend yourself (except runaway real quick).

@mikhayah
we are a small group of people that workout together!...there are two people teaching the others...., one is more into the acrobatic stuff the other one comes from a  tae kwon do/escrima/win tsun background!...
the one working the martial arts stuff is a good friend of mine and we´re developing the parkour stuff to use it in "positive activities"!
i´m from europe!

hehe...yeah, i saw my first jackie chan video some month ago!...he´s crazy! :o

no, it´s not we want to do parkour to defend our selfes, but i just wondered, what would be the best martial art to combine with parkour!...you know, sometimes there is no way out, so you have to defend yourself!!
...............
i think win tsun is quiet effectiv?!?...so it maybe will be the best!??! ::)
just wanted to know if maybe someone has some experience!!

It's impossible to say one martial art is the "most effective." Cross training in various effective styles is the most effective. Each style has strengths and weakenesses and NO style has EVERYTHING.
